Myck is free, somewhat

So it seems that NCAA has taken back the initial year long ban that was levied on Texas PG Myck Kabongo two days ago.  According to this early report from CBS Sports, the punishment had been changed to 23 games, likely including the 11 games already missed so far this season.  The reports are still early so there could be more details to come.

As an aside, there had been rumours of things that had helped the punishment among and CBS Sports college basketball guy Jeff Goodman tweeted this out earlier tonight ...

What i am trying to make clear is that Myck Kabongo didn't lie to the NCAA. He did so to university officials in two separate meetings.

Ouch!  Pretty serious stuff here.

I don't know what bearing this had on the overall punishment.  And at this point, I think it's a moot point.  What should stick is that 1) the process took a hell of a long time; 2) the punishment was incredibly harsh in most educated opinions and there 3) Myck is finally able to get back on the floor this season to ply his game.  He should return to the court for Texas' Feb.13 against Iowa St.

Here's to a soon to be freed Myck.

I think we all can say that we saw this coming at some point or another.  I'm just hoping that it gets resolved quickly so Myck can get back to playing in basketball games again.  All we have are the initial reports that Yahoo! Sports has revealed this early on so no juicy details just yet.

Kabongo is out for the rest of the year

And the it looks like Myck Kabongo is done for the rest of the year.

It's hard to gauge what is truth, fiction and fabrication in a situation like this.  The only real truth is what Yahoo! Sports is reporting - The NCAA has found enough evidence, whatever it is, for them to find Kabongo guilty of an infraction thus leading to the suspension.

Now, if you check the link it states that Myck may have lied in an interview during the investigation and the story also alludes to the Dez Bryant situation in 2009 where he lied to the NCAA and got a year off.  There are no details as what he lied about, only that he has allegedly lied.

I'm a little surprised by the whole outcome but at the same time not surprised.  These situations are usually handled relatively quickly and it seems that the NCAA had a reason to keep investigating.
Whatever the ultimate cause of the suspension, we as Canadian basketball fans can only be supportive of Myck now.
