OK folks, I don't like to toot my own horn unless it was a spectacular pass but I have to for this one. If you haven't checked it out yet, head on over to SLAMonline and peep the story I did on Cape Breton Caper Jimmy Dorsey. It went longer than I had originally meant it to but I think it in the end the story needed to be as rich as possible, without being a novel.
As an aside, this is probably one of my proudest moments as a writer in recent months particularly because it was a story about a baller playing at a Canadian school, that to be completely honest does not have a high profile outside of Atlantic Canada let alone the US. OK, given that the player I'm talking about is American on this particular roster I'm most happy that I got to talk about a ball player on a school north of the border this time around.
It's very rare that stories of our ball players make major media outlets in the US, or Canada for that matter. Despite being from the Baltimore area, I consider Jimmy Dorsey one of our own. He reps the Capers so I in turn rep him. Having his story on SLAMonline should be a beginning for our local ballers to get some shine particularly when those in charge of what gets published don't have a desire to publish a great story like his and many others.
So when you get a second in your work day or between studying or Christmas shopping or whatever, click the link, check out the story and commit to memory that a piece was written on the biggest, most popular basketball website on the planet about a kid who played for Cape Breton University ...
