In case you haven't heard, the Saint John Mill Rats of the NBL Canada have been raising support to get one of their players, Modibo Diarra, back to his adopted home. And after months of work and some legal jumping there is a happy ending.
Diarra, his wife and their young daughter made it back to Saint John and away from their war-torn homeland of Mali.
I can do nothing but applaud the Mill Rats organisation for their efforts to make this a reality.
This is what makes our basketball community very unique. We may not all be from the same place, in the world on any level, but the game is what unites us. The game gets us to pull for, support and sometimes fight for people we would not regularly have thought about otherwise. The game makes us care for each other in the game and what happened in Saint John is an example of what the game can bring to us and bring out of us.
